Squash Shadow Practice With a Live Form Coach
Squash technique lives in the preparation: racket up early, a compact swing, contact beside the front foot. Shadow practice drills exactly that, and Formanti watches each swing through your phone camera and tells you what to fix.
It runs on your phone and your video is not uploaded. Pick a shot below to see what it checks and the drills it gives you.
No equipment needed. Practise at home. Just do the swing properly in front of your phone. No court, ball or shuttle is needed, and a racket is optional: the coach judges your movement, so a shadow swing at home in a hallway or garden is enough.
What you get after a session
When you finish, you get a report like this one.
- How many swings were in range, out of how many.
- The one thing to work on next, then the next, each with a drill.
- Every swing as a picture with your skeleton on it: ticked, or flagged with what was off.

How to practise squash on your own
- Place your phone 2 to 3 metres away, side-on to your racket arm, whole body in view.
- Work on one shot at a time: 15 swings of the same shot beat a mixed session.
- Get the racket up early on every swing; most squash errors start with late preparation.
- Read the session report and pick the one thing to take into your next court session.
What to work on first
Racket up early. The best squash habit is preparation: racket up as you move to the ball, side-on to the wall. After that, length: a drive that dies in the back corner does more than a hard one that sits up. Finally, get back to the T after every shot.
Squash shots you can practise
- Forehand drive: A tighter squash forehand drive: racket up early, contact by the front foot, hit through.
- Backhand drive: A solid squash backhand drive: early preparation, side-on, contact in front.
- Drop shot: A better squash drop shot: same preparation as a drive, soft hands, die in the nick.
- Volley: Sharper squash volleys: racket up, short swing, take it early.
- Boast: A sharper squash boast: hit the side wall first, from a compact swing.
Frequently asked questions
Can you practise squash technique without a court?
The racket preparation, the swing path, the contact point and the footwork can be shadowed anywhere with a little space.
Does it track the ball?
No. It watches your body and racket arm, not the ball, so it judges technique rather than where the shot goes.
